Kayla Tanaka

Inspiration For All Those Who Follow in Her Path

Kayla Tanaka is a thriving 25 year old woman, but you wouldn’t guess the challenges she faced – and overcame – during her childhood. Born eight weeks premature, she was diagnosed at birth with spastic cerebral palsy (CP) and congenital heart disease. Within the first four months of her life she underwent three surgeries for her heart disease.

Cheryl Buettemeier

Advocate, Leader, Therapist and Friend

Don’t tell Cheryl Buettemeier, Program Director at the Boyer Children’s Clinic, that her only job is to help the child. “I love sharing with parents that my role not only involves working with the child, but also to be a resource for the entire family,” Cheryl stresses. “The most invaluable tool I can provide parents is to teach them how to be the best advocates for their child after they leave Boyer.”

Eli Etzioni

A reflection of a 17 year old volunteer’s time at Boyer.

There’s something magical happening inside Boyer Children’s Clinic. My name is Eli Etzioni. I am currently finishing up my senior year of high school at Seattle Academy of Arts and Sciences. I have been at Boyer for the last seven weeks on my Senior Internship.

Cynthia Brunk

“It was like a wall coming down”

In May of 2009, Cynthia Brunk was a bright, talkative and active healthy young girl who was suddenly hospitalized for seizures and high fever. She spent 8 days in the ICU at a Seattle hospital where her family learned that she was battling the H1N1 virus.
